What is Health?

The oxford dictionary defines health as, “the state of being free from illness or injury.”  For me, the key word in this definition is “free”.  Your body is free from pain and illness.  Your mind is clear and free. Your family is free from inadequacies such as food, clothing, housing and medical care.  Your community nurtures your desire to belong.  Your inner child plays with the days as if they were all just a canvas to create upon. You dance your own dance, without explanation.  You’re free.  That, to me, is health.

We are all involved to a greater or lesser degree with an interconnected web of people, politics, governments, cultures and ways of existing that can interfere with our sense of freedom.  There are many pieces of this worldwide puzzle that can send us spiraling in the wrong direction, away from the path of health: eating the food that is the quickest and easiest because we are too busy to cook, not finding the space in your day to exercise, not making the time to spend with your community, not enjoying the dance…

and this is when illness in its various forms, physical, mental, and spiritual begins to take root and derails us from the path of freedom, the path of health.  You’ll undoubtedly have to put some work into it.  But isn’t that life vision of yours worth it?

Close your eyes and picture a bright blue sky…  In the foreground a white sheet is hanging from the clothesline and blowing with the wind…  you can hear it whipping with every gust.  Your face is tilted to the sun and there is a cool breeze passing over it in waves…  You have no pain.  No illness.  No worry.  You notice the natural smile from this healthy life across your face.  What does this freedom feel like?

Life comes with derailments.  It is part of the deal.  But do you succumb or dance? I’m here to help you learn how to dance.
