My story changed the moment I finally began asking why.
I was raised in Georgia and spent my childhood catching fireflies and jumping into lakes and my high school days running track, playing soccer and spending late nights with my friends around bonfires. To this day, they were some of the best moments of my life. Then I went to university and I began having severe anxiety and panic attacks which made it almost impossible to leave my house. After three years I had to leave university so I could focus on finding Ashley and putting her back together again. Why was all of this happening?
I began learning that for me to truly thrive, I had to follow that all-knowing pull that comes from within instead of following the push down a path that society had carved out for me. I began following that pull with gusto and in so doing, it gave me experiences and took me places that one day I’ll write a book about. I evolved and grew on an extraordinary scale. And I loved my life again. I traveled to far off places. I changed careers. I went back to university and got my master’s degree. I jumped off cliffs. I moved to different countries. I fell in love. I fell out of love. And I fell in love all over again.
I’ve spent the past couple of decades traversing the globe and learning about its different people and cultures. While diversity abounds, we are all more similar than meets the eye. No matter where we come from or what culture raised us, we all share an innate power and wisdom that can move mountains. Whether that mountain is a healthier version of yourself, a skinnier version of yourself, a less medicated version of yourself or a happier version of yourself, you’ve got the innate power to successfully acquire it. Yes, YOU.
There will surely be barriers in your way, but the reality is that you are much greater than those barriers. And I am here to help you realize that and find your path around them. Because although you may not see that path right now, it is there!
In 2016 and then again in 2017, just when I was standing high on one of my mountains, I was knocked completely off with a diagnosis of two auto-immune disorders, Hashimotos and Graves’ disease. I was told that I would have to have my thyroid removed or else I would be “choosing death”. The very real situation that I was up against is that I have a special needs little boy, who doesn’t see well and communicates mostly through sound. In having your thyroid removed you run the risk of having your vocal cords permanently damaged and losing your voice. As my voice is the primary way I communicate with my son, I knew I had to find another way.
So you can believe me when I tell you that I know how big and how insurmountable life’s barriers can seem. But I also know that they can so often be overcome. I refused the surgery and spent years deep in a rabbit hole, one far beyond mainstream rabbit holes, following answers to one question: Why? It led me to answers and discoveries I could have never dreamed of. It led me to a great understanding of what ‘health’ actually means. It led me to Functional Medicine. It led me to a full recovery. It led me to Functional Medicine Health Coaching. And it led me to you! I am living a full and energetic life in remission without medication and with a fully functioning thyroid! Whatever it is you want, you can have it. And I am here to help you!
